THOUGHT FOR TODAY

You can take no credit for beauty at sixteen.
But if you are beautiful at sixty, it will be you soul's own doing.

IN MEMORY OF BARRY

I am so inspired with this photo that I created a short poem:

The weather is so fine as I can see. It's great to start the day. And I admit I envy the dog named Lindsay. :-) Thanks for sharing the sunny weather Linda and Barry!

When I knew Barry passed away, I can't believe it.  Our meeting in FSO and knowing the real him was kinda short.   It saddened me but I convinced myself to be happy because I know he is happy wherever he is right now.

I admired Barry for being a strong person, a good husband, a loving grandfather and a dedicated shooter.  In fact, I created a post for him last October 2009.  Here's the original link.

HEALTHY TIPS

Keep toothbrushes separate rather than putting everyone's brush in a single container.  Research shows that infections can transfer through contact one toothbrush to the other.

Flossing is as important as brushing.  Flossing removes food particles and bacteria that are hiding in the tiny spaces between teeth.  If not removed, tartar builds up which can cause a more serious infection.

TOO MUCH LOVE WILL KILL YOU FAITHFULLY

I'LL BE THE ONE to love you more.  I'll be your everything and more.  I'll be your rainbow baby after the rain.  I'll be the sun that warms your soul.  I'll be the till the stars don't shine.  Till the heaven burst and the words don't rhyme.  And I know when I die, you'll be on my mind.  And I'll love you ALWAYS.  Oh girl, you stand by me.  I'm forever yours FAITHFULLY.  Paano kung ayaw mo na.  Paano ba ang mag-isa.  Yes, TOO MUCH LOVE WILL KILL YOU in the end.

You got it!  The debut album of the first Philippine Got Talent champion, JOVIT BALDIVINO.

I am not fond of collecting CDs.  i am not totally into music.  Yet, I like to listen too.  But it's different this time.  I like both the singer and his music.

And this is my first time to buy a CD album for myself. I don't want to miss the chance to have a remembrance of Jovit's success.

MORE POWER PGT JOVIT!

THE HAPPY FEET AND THE LUCKY SHOES

Dear Boss:

It's Saturday and it's officially our day! It's the day you clean and pampers us. You make us feel how important we are in your life and are an essential part of almost everything you do- like walking, running, exercising, or just standing. You keep us moisturized that can keep the skin soft, moist, and healthy. Indeed, you give us the best possible attention! Thank you!

Though this morning we just wondered. You let us take a pose with this tag. Are you gonna sell us? How come? Without knowing, we will be your blog guest today.

After the photo shoot, we were ready to go to work. Not to mention that you
were late again. But we are so happy you really care.

We want to thank you for letting us meet other happy feet too. We hope that you won't get tired of cleaning and taking care of us for many years to come. We hope that you still gonna wear the right shoes and avoid shoes with no heels but don't ever wear high heels. Since you are getting old, we have to remind you to regularly massage us and apply moisturizer liberally except for between the toes, which should not be left wet. Please cut our toenails properly. Cut them straight across with the end of the toes if possible to avoid ingrown toenails. If the ingrown toenails develops, see a podiatrist for treatment. Remember, you are not a doctor so do not try to be one. Take care of calluses. If you don't want to do the work of removing calluses yourself anymore, get a pedicure! Make sure you don't stand or sit too long. Doing either for extended periods of time can contribute to poor circulation in us. Please remove your shoes when you're inside your home. But go barefoot only when it's safe. But please wear your shoes outdoors to protect us in danger of stepping on sharp stones or other objects that might bruise or cut us. And last but not the least, stretch before exercising.

Please remember us with these idioms:

  • at one's feet
  • be on one's feet
  • both feet on the ground
  • cold feet
  • feet of clay
  • get to one's feet
  • get under someone's feet
  • keep one's feet
  • put one's feet up
  • stand on one's own two feet
Lastly, we would like to thank Cuticle remover, Benzalkonium Chloride, Cuticle nipper, nail pusher, and nail cutter for our grooming.

Very truly yours,

HAPPY FEET :-)

KNITTING NEEDLES

All we need to get started a knitting project is a pair of needles.  Knitting needles are available in a variety of materials, the cheapest are aluminum and plastic.  They can also be made from bamboo, steel, ebony or even bone.  There are three types of needle:  straight, circular, and double pointed.

YARN

The main material used to make knitting projects is yarn.  Yarn is made by spinning fibers of natural and/or synthetic material together.  The combination of fibers used produces yarns of different softness and strength, which affects the look and feel of the finished item as well as what the yarn, is like to knit with.  Yarn fibers can be split into two categories:  natural and synthetic.  Some yarns are a blend of natural and synthetic fibers.

CROCHET

Crochet is a popular art not only because it produces a wide variety f beautiful fabrics for many different users, but also because it requires very little in the way of equipment.  All you need is a hook and some kind of thread- anything from string, straw, or strips of gingham to silk, angora wool or ribbon.

Crochet can be worked in rounds or rows to any shape or size in a vast number of patterns using a few basic stitches.

THE WORLD OF CROCHET

A delicate handmade tablecloth, a colorful afghan, or lace-trimmed guest towels, these enhance and personalized any home and make its owners proud.  They are more costly to buy than most of us can afford or justify.  But we can have them, nevertheless- and in many cases quite easily-by making them ourselves in crochet.  You can crochet beautiful things for your home or to give as very special gifts.

IT'S BEAD TIME

One of the most important in a beader's life aside from beads of course, is having a good place to keep all supplies use on a daily basis.  Translucent plastic craft boxes are a favorite among beaders because they are usually divided into small cells that are the perfect size for small beads.

BEADS AND SEQUINS

Beads and sequins come in an astonishing variety of colors, sizes, and shapes.  Whenever possible, use glass beads and stones, as these will look better and last over time.  Sequins are usually made from plastic, but quality of the plastic varies.  When purchasing these items, price is one way to determine quality.  You need not break the bank, do a visual inspection to check for uniformity of color and size.

TRANSITIONS

It's my honor to be the host of this week's photo theme- TRANSITIONS  in FSO.

"Our town has full of transitions.  Things are always changing and evolving.  Situations that seem stable and constant can change in an instant or over days, weeks, months or years.

I completely believe that photography and telling the story of transition while you are in it, or before or after you go through it- has a huge, positive impact.  When you embrace the opportunity to capture an event or a series of events, you're making layout memories to your own experience of transitions.  This is priceless and powerful."

Here's my photos of transitions:

WRITING INSTRUMENTS IN A CRAFTED CUP

I am not an ardent fan of Ms. Sharon Cuneta.  I like her not being an actor but being herself.  I am a follower of her magazine, the Sharon @ Home.  And for me, she's an effective product endorser.  When I saw her Nestle ice cream commercial on T.V., I was like a conceived woman looking for it in a grocery store.  I really wanted to taste the Ultimate Banana Split.  I can taste the real banana chunks and the crushed nuts.  It made my office mates curious to taste too.  My sister likes the Chunky Chocolate Mocha more.  She loves the crushed cashews and peanuts deliciously smothered in creamy mocha ice cream.  We have plenty of empty cups of ice cream at home.

When I was fixing my stuff last week, a great idea popped on my mind.  I crafted the empty cup of ice cream and put all my writing intruments in it.

I did not have everything I needed.  So I was forced to do what I could with what I had.  "You can discover many useful ways with stuff around the house.  Make do with what you have!"- Ms Sharon Cuneta

HARD OR SOFT WIRE

During the 1994 Miss Universe held in Manila, Philippines.  The judge asked the Philippine candidate, Miss Charlene Gonzales now married to Mr. Aga Muchlach:  How many islands in the Philippines.  Ms. Charlene asked back the Judge:  High tide or low tide?

In wireworking class, students commonly ask:  If I am buying a supply of sterling silver wire, should I buy soft or hard wire?

Typically, you will find sterling silver wire sold as "hard", "half-hard", or "dead-soft wire is the most malleable wire.  Half-hard and hard wire are respectively stiffer and have a soft spring.  It's easier to harden a soft wire than soften it.

MY ART PROJECT- BEADS

Beads are generally symmetrical along a central axis and have a hole vertically down that axis or across a narrow end. Beads come in a variety of shapes, sizes and color. The most common beads are seed beads, bugle beads, and “cut” beads. There are many other varieties available though. Beads are popular item for making jewelry. When I was in high school, the trend was beaded bracelet and three years ago, the trend was beaded earrings. Beads have other uses besides making jewelry. One of the most popular uses for beads besides jewelry is decoration. The other one is simply string beads.

There are great ideas for the uses of beads:

1. to decorate greeting cards
2. to adorn dolls
3. to sew on quilts
4. to decorate purses
5. to decorate frames
6. a customized rosary
7. wine identifiers
8. tassels
9. on spines of handmade books
10. wall decors

I’ll use beads more in my future art projects.

THE POSTCROSSING PROJECT

I am still enjoying postcrossing!  Receiving and sending postcards around the world is so exciting.  I learned more about other culture and traditions, meeting different people around the world and know some terms of their own language.  Moi means beautiful in Netherlands.  Privet means hello in Russian.  Ilo means joy in Finnish (Iloilo City according to them joyjoy city). Sawasdee means hello in Thailand and Moin moin means hello in German.

I just knew GB is for Great Britain.  Soumi is the Finnish word for english word Finland like Pilipinas-Philippines.  Lapland is the Nothern Finland where Santo Claus used to live.

Most of the postcards I received are historical landmarks and beautiful arts like painting.  Some postcrossers love to put stickers, draw something and they write in different strokes.  I love reading different messages on the pack side of the postcard.

They have unique names too such as
Ewa-Polish
Michaela-German
Kazimierz-Polish
Lyubov-Russian
Feifei-Chinese
Pang-Thailander
Qianqian-Chinese
Eca-Finnish
Gerda-Belgian
Kateryna-Spanish
Jorma-Finnish
Paivi-Finnish
Darcie-American
Heli-Finnish
Yaya-Puerto Rican
Bi-han-Taiwanese

I received postcards from unique countries like Kenya, Bahamas, Portugal, India, Switzerland, Belguim, Croatia, Hungary, Puerto Rico, Japan, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Belarus, Lithunia, Greece, Estonia, Norway, Sweden and more to mention

This is where I stock in the postcards I received

So many postcards to organize and line up to put in a postcard album I personally make.

I marked the postcards in red after I posted the postcards on my postcard blog.

The first two postcards i ever received, one is actually a thank you postcard.  Both came from Finland.

the postcard album I just finished with 20 clear pages.

Happy postcrossing!

HERBS IN MACRO SETTING

The pure air, the sunshine, the flowers and trees, the orchards and vineyards are healthy-giving.  There are simple herbs and roots that people may use for themselves and needed not to call a physician any sooner.

We are surrounded by medical plants.  These medical plants could be just as effective in their natural forms, direct from the garden or backyard.  The leaves and flowers could be boiled, juices could be extracted from the leaves; and poultices could be made out of the roots and barks.

Atis or sugar apple-treatment for fainting.
If the patient is breathing and his pulse is strong, crush Atis leaves.  Let him smell the aroma of the juice.  Put it over the nose for him to smell.  Let him smell until his dizziness or fainting spell is out.

Buyo or Betel leaf pepper-treatment for body odor
Extract juice from buyo leaves and mix with kalamansi juice.  Apply as deodorant every after bath and at bedtime.

Duhat or Black plum/Java plum- treatment for swollen gums and mouth inflammation
Boil 10 chopped fresh leaves in 2 glasses of water for ten minutes.  Use the decoction for mouthwash or gargle.

Gumamela or China rose- treatment for abscesses and boils
Chop 5 leaves and two flowers.  Apply directly on abscess or boil as poultice, 2 times a day.

Kamoteng kahoy or Cassava/Tapioca plant- treatment for skin itchiness and allergy
You may use kamoteng kahoy or cassava flour as water treatment.

Makabuhay- treatment for athlete's foot
Chop a one-foot long portion of the vine and boil in 5 glasses of water for 15 minutes.  Soak the infected foot in the hot decoction for 15 minutes or as can be tolerated.  While foot is soaked, rub between the toes with cotton applicators, removing the dead skin and pricking the vesicles.  Soak for 10 minutes after removal of the dead skin.  Soak foot 2 times a day for severe infections; otherwise, soak once a day only.

Malunggay or Horse raddish tree- treatment for constipation
Eat 1 cup cooked leaves with meals.

Banana or saging- medication for mild bleeding
Pound young leaves until soft and juicy.  Drop the juice over the wound.  Apply with pressure the pounded leaves over the wound.  Bandage snugly but not too tight.  If bleeding does not stop after 15 minutes, bring patient to the nearest hospital or clinic for proper treatment.

This post is my entry for this week's FSO theme:  Urban Macro by the town blogger team.Oh boy, I just realized mine is the opposite and they were rural shots.
